Hi All
I won t ramble on but just had to post on this one.
Had RA for 15 months but after a lot of messing around commenced treatment at the beginning of February. Throughout all this time, like us all, I have had terrible bouts of shire agonizing pain, especially when the dx me with reactive arthritis and was only really being treated with anit-biotics. Well in recent days the level of pain has got so bad I have been nearly passing out and can barely move about, went to the GP friday verging on tears as I ve had enough and told him the situation.
I explained the co codamol is not dealing with the pain, he said about Tramadol and I explained that has ever really worked. He decided to give me the patches Butrans ( the medium strength ) and up my pred from 2.5mg to 10mg. Well after one day I truly cannot believe the difference, to say I am staggered is an under statement. I am out of so much pain and feeling reasonably well. I ve read on the forum about patches but didn t realize their significance. What I can t understand if why I was only offered them now, I have always said the pain is always is difficult to tolerate. Have I missed the point somewhere ?
Hope all having good weekend, I gather its going to be a bit cooler next week
Julia

Hi Julia Sorry to hear you have been having a bad time with the pain but really pleased your GP has been able to help you out with much better pain relief. The increased steroids will be good too for controlling inflammation etc. I have never been offered patches but they certainly seem to be working for you. Enjoy the benefit! Lyn x

Julia, so pleased the patches are working so well for you. Like you, I have said that pain meds dont work, and every time nothing gets done. This time I was give double the amount of pregabelin and another added hydroxychloroquine. No difference yet, but only been one day!! Like Lyn says, the pred makes a big difference too. When I came off them around 4 weeks ago I was in so much pain I walked around holding onto the furniture. The patches seem to be doing their job for you, and so glad you are out of alot of the pain, take care x BARBARA

Lovely to hear Julia! You ask why you haven't been given them sooner-well, that would have meant someone using some common sense wouldn't it! YES I'VE CHANGED, PAIN DOES THAT TO PEOPLE.

Hi Julia
I'm glad your pain has been made better by the Pred and Butrans. I had these patches when I was going through a bad patch. They are a controlled substance, only given to patients with high levels of pain, so that's probably why you haven't had them before, they don't hand them out to everyone.
Like you and others, I cannot find an analgesic that actually stops pain. I have to say, though, I stopped taking Tramadol for a couple of days, thinking they weren't any good, but I soon realised they were doing something when the pain in my joints got worse!
I hope they continue to work, so you can get your life back!
Lyn

Hi Julia i too am on the Butrans patches as the Tramodol were making me shake and have really bad anxiety so the doctor gave me the patches but he did say that when you are on the patches you are classed as a drug addict and this is why they dont hand them out to any one , i told him i didn't care what i was classed as as i needed some pain relief, they are fantastic , i only wish i had them years ago, hope your feeling pain free Sophie x
